Overview
Rocktopus ("we", "our", or "the app") is a game made by muddermis. This policy explains what the app collects, what it does not, and who else is involved.
The short version: your game progress never leaves your device, there is no account, and the only data that goes anywhere is what Google's ad network needs in order to show you an ad — which you can limit or refuse.
What stays on your device
- Your career record — wins, losses, draws, streaks, per-throw totals and perfect victories.
- Which octopus colours you have unlocked and which one you are using.
- Your sound and haptics settings.
- Whether you have bought Remove Ads.
All of this is stored locally, on your device only. We do not operate a server, and none of it is uploaded, backed up to us, or visible to us.
Advertising
Rocktopus is free and shows ads from Google AdMob. There are two kinds:
- A full-screen ad that appears occasionally after a match ends.
- An optional video you can choose to watch in order to unlock an octopus colour. This one only ever plays if you ask for it.
To serve those ads, Google may collect and process device and usage information, including your device's advertising identifier (IDFA), IP address, device model, operating system version, and coarse location derived from your IP address. This is Google's collection, governed by Google's Privacy Policy. You can read how Google uses data from apps that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Buying Remove Ads stops all of this: no ads are requested, and no ad requests are made to Google.
Your choices about advertising
- App Tracking Transparency. On first launch, iOS asks whether Rocktopus may track you across apps and websites. If you say no, your advertising identifier is not shared and ads are non-personalised. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
- Consent (EEA, UK and Switzerland). If you are in a region covered by the GDPR, a Google consent form appears before any personalised ad is requested. You can reopen it at any time from Options › Ad Preferences inside the game and change your answer.
- Non-personalised ads. If you decline tracking or consent, ads still appear but are not based on a profile of you.
Game Center
If you play against another person, Rocktopus uses Apple's Game Center to find an opponent and to exchange each player's eight throws during the match. Game Center is operated by Apple, and your Game Center identity and friend relationships are managed by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy. We receive only the display name Game Center provides for your opponent, and we do not store it.
Single player does not use Game Center at all and works with no connection.
Purchases
Remove Ads is sold through Apple. Apple processes the payment; Rocktopus receives only a signed confirmation from StoreKit that the purchase exists. We never see your payment details, your Apple Account, or your name.
What we do not collect
- No account, email address, name or phone number.
- No precise device location.
- No access to your photos, contacts, calendar, microphone or camera.
- No analytics SDK of our own — we do not track how you play.
Children
Rocktopus is rated 9+ and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, contact us and we will look into it.
Data retention and deletion
Because your data is stored only on your device, deleting the app deletes it. There is nothing held on our side to request the deletion of. Data held by Google in connection with advertising is subject to Google's own retention policies and controls, linked above.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
