Scan their QR code with the camera, open their invite link, or paste or type their share code (e.g. WAY-K7PQ-2X9M) under Add a friend. Adding someone shares your current location with them straight away and sends them a request; they'll need to add you back before you can see them.
No. Your location only ever goes to people you have added as friends, and never while sharing is off for them or Ghost Mode is on. Adding a friend shares your location with them once, right away. After that, their pings are answered automatically while Auto-approve is on for them (the default for every new friend) or Festival Mode is active; switch Auto-approve off and you approve each ping yourself. Strangers never get your location unless you add them. Ghost Mode instantly stops all sharing.
Festival Mode answers every crew ping automatically for a set duration — including friends you normally approve by hand — so nobody waits on a tap. Nothing streams in the background: your location is sent only when a friend pings you. It switches itself off when the timer runs out. Perfect for festivals, concerts, and big events.
Free sessions run up to 4 hours. WAY+ raises that to 24 hours, so you can set it once and forget about it.
Ghost Mode is a hard kill switch. When enabled, all location sharing stops immediately, all published location records are deleted, and your device stops sending location updates entirely. No one can see where you are.
Go to the Crew tab, tap the friend, and toggle off sharing. You can also remove or block them entirely.
Requests from people not in your friend list appear in the Stranger Inbox on the Crew tab. You can choose to Add, Ignore, or Block them. Blocked codes are permanently silenced.
Yes. Go to Privacy settings and tap "Rotate Share Code". This revokes all outstanding location records, deletes your old directory entry, and generates a fresh code. Anyone with your old code can no longer find or contact you.

Everything else stays free, and safety is never gated: locating a lost friend, Ghost Mode, blocking, and every privacy control work whether or not you buy it. If you already had a bigger crew before WAY+ existed, you keep it — the cap only applies going forward.
There's also an optional $0.99 tip. It unlocks nothing — it's purely a thank you.
No. WAY contains no ads, no third-party analytics, and no tracking SDKs. We don't sell your data. Your location flows through Apple's CloudKit — we don't operate our own servers.
WAY requires an internet connection to share and receive locations. Without connectivity, the map keeps showing the last locations your friends shared until each one expires, but won't get new ones.
Enable Ghost Mode to revoke all shared locations, then use "Rotate Share Code" to delete your public directory entry. Deleting the app removes its data from your device; your friend list and settings are also kept in your own iCloud, where you can delete them from your iCloud storage settings. No data remains on our side.
