The short version
Spineless? collects nothing. It has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no servers. It does not make network requests. Everything you type into it — the habit you're quitting, your streaks, your slips and your notes — is stored in a file on your device and never leaves it.
We could not read your data if we wanted to. There is nowhere for it to go.
What the app stores on your device
- The names of the habits you're quitting, plus any emoji, colour and target you choose.
- The date and time each streak started.
- Each recorded slip: its date and time, an optional trigger category, and an optional note you write yourself.
- The days you tapped "still clean".
- Your settings: tone of voice, reminder times, and whether reminders are on.
This is held in the app's own private storage area. Deleting the app deletes all of it. There is no iCloud sync in this version, so nothing is copied to another device or to Apple's servers.
What we do not do
- We do not collect personal information.
- We do not use analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
- We do not show advertisements, and the app contains no advertising SDK.
- We do not track you across apps or websites. The app never asks for permission to do so, because it has no use for it.
- We do not create an account for you or ask for an email address.
Notifications
If you turn on the daily check-in reminder, the app asks iOS for notification permission and schedules the reminder locally on your device. No notification is sent from a server, and we are not told whether you enabled it. You can revoke permission at any time in iPhone Settings → Notifications → Spineless?.
Purchases & subscriptions
- Spineless? offers Backbone as a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription, and as a one-time lifetime purchase. All of them are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store.
- We never receive or store your payment details — not your card, not your billing address, not your Apple Account credentials.
- Whether you have Backbone is determined on your device, from the App Store receipt. That check involves no server of ours, and we are not told who has purchased.
- Manage or cancel a subscription in iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions. See the Terms of Use for the full renewal terms.
Third-party services
The app integrates no third-party SDKs. The only external party involved is Apple, and only for processing purchases you choose to make. Apple's privacy policy: apple.com/privacy.
Your rights
Because your data lives only on your device, you can exercise every right directly inside the app:
- Access — everything is visible in the app; nothing is hidden from you.
- Export — Settings → Export to CSV (a Backbone feature).
- Delete — Settings → Delete everything, or simply delete the app.
Data controller & legal rights (EU/UK/California)
The data controller for the limited data Spineless? handles is muddermis, contactable at muddermister@gmail.com.
If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, Switzerland, California, or another region with comparable laws, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, port, or object to the processing of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (for EU residents, the Danish Data Protection Agency — Datatilsynet — at datatilsynet.dk).
In practice there is nothing for us to hand over or erase, because we never receive your data in the first place. Deleting the app removes it completely.
A note on sensitive topics
People use Spineless? to quit things that matter — smoking, drinking, gambling and worse. That is exactly why the app is built to keep no record anywhere but your own phone. Spineless? is a motivational tracker with jokes in it; it is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice or treatment. If you are struggling with a dependency, please talk to a doctor or a local support service.
Children's privacy
Spineless? is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where local law requires, such as under GDPR in parts of the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children — or, indeed, from anyone.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the "Last updated" date above.
