Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using GRDN, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use.
License
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use GRDN for personal, non-commercial purposes.
Price
GRDN is free to download and free to use, covering one garden and ten plants. The full care engine is included at no cost — watering advice, frost warnings, growth tracking, the whole plant catalogue, and the frost alert delivered the evening before.
GRDN Pro removes the garden and plant limits and adds reminders for routine work (watering, harvest and pruning). It is sold as an auto-renewing monthly or yearly subscription; the current prices are shown in the app before you buy, in your own currency.
Auto-renewing subscriptions: payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of that period. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when a subscription is purchased. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings. There are no ads on any tier. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store and are subject to Apple's terms; restoring a previous purchase is available from within the app.
If a subscription lapses, you keep everything you have already recorded and can continue to view, water and manage it. Only creating gardens and plants beyond the free limits stops.
Horticultural Advice — Read This One
GRDN produces estimates from a model. The model is built on published agronomic research — FAO-56 for crop water requirements, university extension data for degree-day thresholds — and it is careful, but it is still a model running on a weather forecast.
- The forecast can be wrong. Frost warnings depend on predicted overnight minimums, which are predictions. A night can turn colder than forecast, and GRDN cannot warn you about a frost the weather service did not see coming.
- Your garden is not the grid square. Weather is fetched for an area, not for your exact spot. A frost pocket, a sheltered wall or a hill can differ substantially from what the forecast says for the area around it.
- GRDN does not identify plants. If you record the wrong plant, the advice will be confidently wrong. Where GRDN has no care data for something, it says so rather than guessing — advice shown for a plant marked as having no care guide is generic, not specific.
- Nothing here is safety advice. GRDN says nothing about which plants are edible or toxic, and must not be used to decide whether something is safe to eat, to touch, or to have near children or animals. Identify anything you intend to eat by other means.
- Do not rely on it alone for anything valuable. If losing a plant would genuinely matter to you, check the sky yourself.
We provide the advice in good faith and accept no liability for plants that are lost, damaged, over-watered, under-watered, frosted or harvested at the wrong moment.
Your Content
- The gardens, plantings, notes and records you create in GRDN belong to you and are stored on your device. GRDN does not sync or upload them.
- We claim no ownership of anything you record.
Notifications
- Alerts are delivered by iOS local notifications. Their delivery depends on your notification settings, Focus modes, Low Power Mode, and the state of your device.
- Frost alerts are scheduled from the most recent forecast the app was able to fetch. If the app has had no network access for some time, its picture of tonight may be out of date.
- GRDN is not a safety-critical system. Do not rely on it as the only mechanism for anything where a missed alert would cause real harm.
Location
GRDN requests location access only to fetch weather for a garden, at kilometre accuracy, and only when you ask it to. You may decline and enter a location manually instead. See the Privacy Policy for detail.
Data and Attribution
- Weather data is provided by Apple Weather and is subject to Apple's terms.
- Plant names and taxonomy derive from GBIF and Wikidata, both CC0.
- Frost climatology derives from NASA POWER.
- The curated care dataset is published under CC-BY-SA 4.0. The app itself is not.
User Responsibilities
You agree to:
- Use the app only for lawful purposes.
- Not attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or modify the app.
- Not use the app in any way that could damage, disable, or impair it.
Data Loss Disclaimer
GRDN stores your gardens locally and does not sync or back them up to any service of ours. Deleting the app, resetting the device, or a device failure will remove your records. Device backups made through iCloud or a computer are handled by Apple and are outside our control. We are not responsible for lost records.
Disclaimer of Warranties
GRDN is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, that every alert will be delivered, or that any horticultural estimate will prove correct.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of, or inability to use, GRDN — including lost plants or crops, missed frost warnings, incorrect watering advice, or lost records.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Denmark, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
