Overview
GRDN ("we", "our", or "the app") is a gardening app that needs to know roughly where your garden is, because weather is the whole point of it. This policy explains exactly what that means in practice. The short version: your gardens, your plants and your records never leave your device, and we have no server that receives them.
Information We Collect
None that reaches us. GRDN has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising identifiers and no third-party SDKs. We operate no service that receives your data. Our App Store privacy label reflects this.
Location
This is the one piece of data GRDN genuinely needs, so it is worth being precise about it.
- Why. Every piece of advice GRDN gives — how much water your soil has lost, whether tonight will frost, how much warmth your plants have accumulated — is derived from the weather at your garden. Without a location there is no weather, and without weather the app has nothing to say.
- How precise. GRDN asks iOS for location at kilometre accuracy, not street accuracy. A garden is not an address, and the app is not built to know which one is yours.
- When. Only when you tap to use your location while setting up a garden. GRDN never reads your location in the background, and it never tracks your movement. You can also type a location instead, and skip the permission entirely.
- Where it is stored. On your device, as part of that garden's record.
- Where it goes. The coordinate is passed to Apple's WeatherKit to ask for the forecast at that place. That request is handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy. It is not sent to us, because there is nothing of ours for it to be sent to.
Your Gardens and Plants
- Your gardens, what you have planted, when you sowed or planted it, and every watering, pruning, harvest and observation you record are stored locally on your device in a single file belonging to the app.
- GRDN does not sync this anywhere. There is no cloud copy, no account to attach it to, and no shared record.
- Deleting the app deletes all of it. Because nothing is uploaded, there are no other copies for us to remove.
Notifications
GRDN can alert you the evening before a frost, and — on GRDN Pro — remind you about watering, harvest and pruning. These are local notifications, scheduled on your device by the app itself. There is no push server, nothing is sent over the network to deliver them, and no notification token exists. Permission is only requested when you turn alerts on yourself, never at launch.
The Plant Catalogue
The plant database ships inside the app. Searching it is an offline query against a file on your phone — no search terms are transmitted anywhere, and search works with no signal at all.
Purchases
GRDN Pro is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase. Payment is handled entirely by Apple; we never see your payment details, and we receive no personal information from the transaction. Whether you are subscribed is determined on your device from Apple's own StoreKit records, not from any account of ours.
Children
GRDN is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.
Data We Do Not Have
Because it bears saying plainly: we have no database of users, no logs of your activity, no record of what you grow, no email list you were added to, and no ability to identify you. If you write to us, we will only know what you tell us in the message.
Third-Party Services
- Apple WeatherKit — receives a rounded coordinate to return a forecast. Governed by Apple's privacy policy.
- Apple App Store — handles purchases and subscriptions.
There are no others. No analytics provider, no crash reporter, no advertising network.
Your Rights
Under GDPR and similar laws you have rights of access, correction, deletion and portability over personal data a company holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing for us to disclose, correct or erase — the data is on your device, under your control, and deleting the app removes it.
Changes to This Policy
If GRDN ever gains a feature that changes any of the above — an account, or syncing your gardens between devices — this policy will be updated before that feature ships, and the change will be described here rather than buried.
