QR SCNR ("the App") is a QR code and barcode scanner and QR code generator for iPhone and iPad. This policy explains what data the App collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.
1. Information We Collect
- Scanned Codes: The content of QR codes and barcodes you scan is stored locally on your device using Core Data. This data never leaves your device unless you choose to share or export it.
- Camera Access: The App uses your device camera solely to scan QR codes and barcodes. Camera data is processed in real-time and is not recorded, stored, or transmitted.
- Photo Library: To scan a code from a picture, you select a single image in the iOS photo picker. Only that image is handed to the App, and it is decoded on your device — the App has no access to the rest of your library and does not browse it. Saving a QR code you have created to your photos is done through the iOS share sheet, which asks for your permission at that moment.
- Contacts: When you save a contact from a scanned business card code, the details are shown in Apple's own contact sheet and written to Contacts only if you confirm. The App does not read your address book. Contact details you type in to create a business card QR code stay on your device and are only used to build the code.
- Wi-Fi Details: Network names and passwords from scanned or created Wi-Fi codes are handled on your device and are never transmitted to us.
- Advertising Data: If you have not purchased QR SCNR Pro, the App uses Google AdMob to display ads. Google may collect device identifiers and usage data as described in Google's Privacy Policy.
- Purchase Information: If you purchase QR SCNR Pro (or previously purchased Remove Ads or the retired Premium subscription), the transaction is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect or store payment information; the App only reads whether the purchase is active.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Core Functionality: To scan, display, and store QR code and barcode content on your device, and to generate the QR codes you ask for.
- Scan History: To maintain a local history of your scans — including batch scanning runs — so you can search, filter, and revisit them later.
- Export: CSV exports of your scan history are written to a temporary file on your device and passed to the iOS share sheet. Where that file goes next is entirely your choice; it is not sent to us.
- Advertising: To display relevant ads via Google AdMob (if you have not purchased QR SCNR Pro).
3. Data Storage & Security
- All scan history data is stored locally on your device using Core Data.
- No scan data is transmitted to our servers or any third party (unless you actively share or export it).
- Deleting the App will permanently remove all locally stored scan history.
4. Third-Party Services
- Google AdMob: Used to serve advertisements. Google's data practices are governed by their own Privacy Policy.
- App Tracking Transparency (ATT): On first launch, iOS will ask whether QR SCNR may use the Apple advertising identifier (IDFA) for tracking. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track," personalized advertising and the IDFA are disabled; you will still see non-personalized ads until you purchase QR SCNR Pro. You can change this choice at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Apple StoreKit: Handles in-app purchases. Apple's data practices are governed by their own Privacy Policy.
- We do not sell, rent, or otherwise monetize your personal information.
5. Your Choices & Rights
- QR SCNR Pro: Buy the one-time Pro unlock to stop all advertising and the associated data collection by Google AdMob. It is a single purchase, not a subscription.
- Delete Data: Clear your scan history at any time from within the App, or delete the App entirely.
- Camera Access: You can revoke camera access at any time in your device's Settings, though the App will not function without it.
- Photo Access: Scanning from a photo and saving a created code are both optional — the App works fully without ever touching your photo library.
6. Data Controller & Legal Rights (EU/UK/California)
The data controller for the limited data QR SCNR handles is muddermis, contactable at muddermister@gmail.com. Our lawful basis for processing is your consent (camera scans, advertising preferences) and our legitimate interest in operating the app.
If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, Switzerland, California, or another region with comparable laws, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Object to or restrict processing (including the use of personalized advertising via the iOS App Tracking Transparency prompt)
- Data portability where applicable
- Withdraw any consent you have given
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (for EU residents, the Danish Data Protection Agency — Datatilsynet — at datatilsynet.dk)
Because scan history is stored on your own device, you can exercise most of these rights directly by clearing history in the app or deleting the app. For any other request, email us at muddermister@gmail.com.
7. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where local law requires) without verified parental consent.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy for legal, technical, or operational reasons. Significant changes will be announced in-app.
